  1. The leaf blower was invented by Dom Quinto in the late 1950s. It was originally introduced to the United States as part of an agricultural chemical sprayer.
     

  2. The first lawn mower was invented by and Englishman, Edwin Beard Budding. Patented in 1830, Budding got the original idea from watching a cutting cylinder at a local cloth mill. While patented, it took almost 10 more years for an effective machine to be put into action.

  3. There are many different nick names for the string trimmer. A string trimmer, also called a "weed-whip", "whipper-snipper", "weed-whacker", a "weed eater", a "line trimmer" (in Australia) or a "strimmer" (in the UK and Ireland), is a tool which uses a flexible monofilament line instead of a blade for cutting grass and other plants near objects, or on steep or irregular terrain. It consists of a cutting tip at the end of a long shaft with a handle.

  4. For many centuries, the grass was only cut by workers who walked through fields or pastures wielding tiny, sharp scythes.

  5. A 150-pound man can burn 380 calories in a half hour of mowing with a push-mower.
